As a vice president based in New York, Katie Connolly brings her background in print and broadcast journalism to help our clients develop winning messages. Katie manages the firm’s polling and research for the White House and DNC on a day-to-day basis, after having served as a senior member of the Ogilvy Award winning polling team during President Obama’s re-election campaign.
Katie was instrumental in developing the firm’s expertise in ethnographic and diary-based research. She has advised institutional, political, and corporate clients, including HBO, The New Republic, NBC News/Esquire, America Achieves, Christine Quinn, Les Schwab, the Hospital & Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania, and the New York State Health Foundation.
Katie came to Benenson Strategy Group from the BBC, where she was a Washington correspondent reporting on U.S. news across all of the BBC’s worldwide platforms: online, radio, and television. Her primary focus was on U.S. politics and elections. She wrote regular online features and analysis and provided reporting and commentary for a range of BBC programs.
Katie previously worked as a political correspondent for Newsweek. During the 2008 presidential campaign, she was embedded with the McCain and Romney campaigns to report for “the project”—Newsweek’s exclusive, behind-the-scenes special coverage. Katie’s reporting as part of the project team won a New York Press Club award for Political Coverage and was nominated for a National Magazine Award.
Katie has also worked for corporate strategy consultants L.E.K. Consulting and for the Australian Department for Foreign Affairs and Trade in their Washington D.C. Embassy.
Originally from Brisbane, Australia, Katie holds a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, where she received the prestigious Menzies scholarship, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Queensland. She completed her honors year at the University of Melbourne.
