Mitch Markel, Vice President, is an expert in marketing strategy, brand communication and targeting. He has developed marketing and communications plans for leading Fortune 1000 companies covering a wide range of industries, including oil, telecommunication, food and beverage, sports and entertainment, consumer packaged goods, financial services and insurance.

With hands-on research experience in more than 80 countries around the world, Markel brings to his work an in-depth understanding of global markets and consumers in every stage of market development. He is also an expert in developing innovative research methodologies to help clients gain new levels of insight into their categories and their audiences.

Markel’s clients have included major corporations such as BP, Coca-Cola, Qwest Communications, Pizza Hut and Shell, as well as a variety of sports and entertainment leaders, including the NHL, LeBron James, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dixie Chicks. Markel also has extensive experience working within the B2B industry for clients such as Pitney Bowes, KPMG, ABB, ADM and Eastman Chemical.

Markel is a two-time winner of the David Ogilvy Research Award, winning in the services category in 2002 for his work on the BP Connect campaign and then again in 2006 for his work with Qwest Communications.

Prior to joining the Benenson Strategy Group, Markel served as senior vice president at Penn, Schoen & Berland Associates.

Markel is a member of both the Marketing Research Association and the American Marketing Association. Markel holds a bachelor of business administration degree in marketing from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he also received an associate degree in sociology. He received his initial training at the Social and Demographic Research Institute in Amherst.
