Benenson Strategy Group Congratulates Craig Cannonier and the One Bermuda Alliance on Victory in the Bermuda General Elections
Benenson Strategy Group (BSG) congratulates its client the One Bermuda Alliance (OBA) and incoming Premier Craig Cannonier on their win in the Bermuda parliamentary elections claiming 19 of 36 seats for a two-seat majority. Voters ousted Paula Cox’s Progressive Labor Party that has ruled Bermuda for the past 14 years.
Opposition leader Craig Cannonier and the OBA ran on a platform of uplifting everyone in the country’s struggling economy, vowing to create 2,000 new jobs in the next five years, and leaving no one behind. With 43,767 registered voters, Bermuda has nearly 62,000 residents and has long served as a global financial center for the insurance and reinsurance sectors as well as various investment funds.
One Bermuda Alliance leader Craig Cannonier said, “It’s a new Bermuda and a new day in politics. A new standard has been set.” At a victory celebration last night, Cannonier continued, “Tonight Bermuda stands in a new place. We have always said from the very beginning this is about the people of this country.”
Benenson Strategy Group Principal Pete Brodnitz and Vice President Mike Gehrke, both based in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office, represented BSG on the One Bermuda Alliance campaign.
“This is an historic win for the One Bermuda Alliance” commented Pete Brodnitz of BSG. “Craig Cannonier and the OBA ran a campaign based on honesty, integrity, and fairness. Mike Gehrke, a Vice President of the Benenson Strategy Group based in Washington, D.C., did an outstanding job helping the OBA and Cannonier as they campaigned under a slogan ‘the change Bermuda needs.’ Both Mike and I are delighted with their victory.”
